BARBARA JOYCE
Miss Joyce, better known as a television actress, lived in St. Maarten for twenty years and then moved to Saba, where she now resides.
She worked with the wellknown painter Romare Bearden, studying collage, and later attended workshops held by Marjan Enders.
Barbara's latest work is called "soft paintings" or "wall hangings" and "Stained Glass Window" is an example of that technique. "Soft paintings" are painted on heavy cotton muslin or light canvas with acrylic paint and the frame is painted on the painting. This enables the picture to be affixed to the wall with double stick adhesive, rolled up into a cardboard tube and carried home. The painting is so durable that it can be ironed and sponged off with water to be cleaned. It can also be framed or matted or hung as a wall-hanging.
Miss Joyce also does more conventional paintings on canvas and paper.

The Herald, August, 1993.
